Reflection of Field Notes

1.  What surprised me?

While sitting in Bongo Java the main thing that surprised me was how many different kinds of people came in.  When I was there I saw students there studying, people just meeting, and then business meetings.  Each kind of group that was there had their own quirks.  The students were usually studying or discussing a project.  Then the business people had their negotiations and just talked and nothing else.  Then the regular people all varied, some were there by themselves and then some were with friends just conversing.  Bongo Java has a wide range of customers with very different personalities.

2.  What intrigued me?

I kept watching a group of three people in front of me.  The group originally consisted of two men and one woman.  One of the men and the woman were not dressed to impress anyone whatsoever.  The other man however, was dressed for a casual business day for work.  They were all reading papers while discussing their daily affairs and what was new with them.  Then after sitting there for fifteen minutes another man who was dressed as if he got out of an interview joined them.  The group obviously knew him considering they were joking as well as swearing at one another.  They were very interesting to watch because they were all different in their own way and they interacted with each other so well it was funny.

3.  What disturbed me?

The same group that intrigued me disturbed me at the same time.  The group really started to disturb me when the fourth man showed up.  He was a very confident man as I could tell from his posture and his language.  He came in and automatically started complaining and whining about his past meeting.  He used profanity to explain his story.  I was not offended by the language but the fact that children were in the shop kind of had me worried.  The group didn't even try to inform him of what he was doing.  Instead they just went along with it and used the same language.  This group which was the most interesting was the most disturbing one as well.
