How Knowledge is Broken Down at my Site

When you look at possible lists that would give me insight to my site the first one would have to be the overall business plan.  This plan gives the general direction of where the company needs to go.  It lists their goals, morals, and overall belief when it comes to business.  This would be the perfect thing to give me insight into each company.  Also a couple of other things to keep in mind with business negotiations are inventory lists and accounting records.  A company may be running short on a certain product and need more so they will call their supplier to request for more.  This gives the negotiations a main goal to achieve now.  The accounting spreadsheets could be helpful too because it gives them a boundary on how much they can get in one sitting.  Analyzing these spreadsheets could also show that a need for a lower price or even a new supplier.  The spreadsheets are essential for any kind of negotiations especially when it comes to acquiring new products.  These lists are essential for any kind of negotiation in a business.

Material Artifact of Business Negotiations

The most important artifact related to my culture would have to be a powerpoint.(A powerpoint is the best artifact for my culture.)  A powerpoint is almost essential for any kind of business meeting or negotiation in Nashville.  However, in Sevierville it is almost unheard of in small businesses.  While I was having a discussion with a fellow classmate she brought up the point that this shows Nashville's companies dependence on technology.(A classmate made me realize that this shows the dependence they need for technology.)  These large companies rely on some sort of visual entertainment to convey what they want.  Though, in Sevierville negotiations are based on the person's character, reliability, and their ability to relate.  If someone is unable to convey those three things through a conversation then the deal may not go through.  In Nashville someone could have awful social skills but are still able to get a deal struck based on their presentation.  This is not the case when it comes to Sevierville.  The first impression is the biggest thing to business owners and can be hard to change after a bad first impression.(If someone messes up the first impression, the deal may never go through.)

Reflection of Field Notes

1.  What surprised me?

While sitting in Bongo Java the main thing that surprised me was how many different kinds of people came in.  When I was there I saw students there studying, people just meeting, and then business meetings.  Each kind of group that was there had their own quirks.  The students were usually studying or discussing a project.  Then the business people had their negotiations and just talked and nothing else.  Then the regular people all varied, some were there by themselves and then some were with friends just conversing.  Bongo Java has a wide range of customers with very different personalities.

2.  What intrigued me?

I kept watching a group of three people in front of me.  The group originally consisted of two men and one woman.  One of the men and the woman were not dressed to impress anyone whatsoever.  The other man however, was dressed for a casual business day for work.  They were all reading papers while discussing their daily affairs and what was new with them.  Then after sitting there for fifteen minutes another man who was dressed as if he got out of an interview joined them.  The group obviously knew him considering they were joking as well as swearing at one another.  They were very interesting to watch because they were all different in their own way and they interacted with each other so well it was funny.

3.  What disturbed me?

The same group that intrigued me disturbed me at the same time.  The group really started to disturb me when the fourth man showed up.  He was a very confident man as I could tell from his posture and his language.  He came in and automatically started complaining and whining about his past meeting.  He used profanity to explain his story.  I was not offended by the language but the fact that children were in the shop kind of had me worried.  The group didn't even try to inform him of what he was doing.  Instead they just went along with it and used the same language.  This group which was the most interesting was the most disturbing one as well.
